Change: A New Musical

Director

“And though you may feel small, we all breathe the same air.”

Change is a new musical that deals with the isolation we feel as human beings existing in the 21st century. Presented as a theatrical song cycle, numerous characters offer their personal stories; stories range from a young struggling waitress, to a mother and son dealing with generational disconnect, to a couple working out year-long misunderstandings, and more. Their struggles may make them feel isolated but will resonate with many.

While Change features a multitude of situations and hardships, we can all find something we resonate with. There is so much conflict and division in our world today and the student who wrote this felt this was something she needed to address in the best way she knew how. Some of the stories are incredibly relevant to her own personal experiences, so we’ve come to really cherish this show and everyone involved in it. Working with an original piece was a journey for everyone–actors had no preconceived notions of their characters so they really breathed life into this community.

So much of the division in today’s world is caused by ignorance and misunderstanding between people. We hope by offering so many contrasting perspectives that we can all understand each other a little bit better and remember that at the end of the day, we’re all human. We hope we can make you feel something—whether it be sadness, anger, comfort, or hope—for you to carry into tomorrow and every day that follows.

“Whoever you are, you’ll find your way.”
