Gertrude’s Tail

Rather than going with the typical long feather boa “tail” you usually see Gertrude with during her transformation, I had a much more unorthodox idea to create a tail that can fan out, like a peacock. I used white netting and bendable metal dowels to construct a translucent base to attach the feathers to and create the illusion the feathers are fanning out on their own. The peacock feathers are real genuine feathers from my family’s farm; feathers are pretty pricy and with a low budget this helped a ton. The dowels are connected to each other at the base which connects to a belt that Gertrude wore underneath their shirt. Two handles made of fishing line were connected on each side allowing Gertrude to fan their tail on stage at the right moment.
